WINTER REMINDERS
The winter season is clearly upon us (as mother-nature has clearly demonstrated). During the winter months it's more important than ever to protect new units from weather related damage that can easily occur and result in costly repairs down the road.
Steps that must be taken during the winter months include the following:
* Confirm that the unit has been properly winterized. Make sure the gate valves are open on all tank outlets. Verify the hot water heater tank has been drained and remove & store the plug (place in a kitchen drawer). Make sure all low point drains are open and plugs are removed and stored with the water heater plug. Make sure there is no water in the stool, and all water lines have RV antifreeze in them.
* Secure the unit. Make sure all windows are fully closed and locked. Same for all roof vents. Make sure all compartment doors are closed, sealed and locked. Same for the entry door(s). Make sure the slide rooms are either all the way in or out. Confirm tight seals (no daylight) in either position to avoid snow/rain penetration.
* Keep all roof surfaces clear. If heavy snow is forecasted, make sure all slide rooms are in the "in" or closed position.
Be sure to quickly remove heavy snow accumulation from the main roof assembly with a broom or brush. This is especially important with a wet snow. Avoid ice build up as much as possible. This is also a safety issue (falling snow or ice off a roof) for employees & customers. Remove any storm debris from roof surfaces & check for damage.
Again, these are just a few reminders and precautions that can be taken. As you know, an RV represents a large investment that must be properly cared for and maintained. It is everybody's best interest to properly protect this investment.
